                                       Indigo

Midnight Exotics is working tirelessly to produce high quality exotic morphs and education the public about herpetology. We choose quality over quantity and are dedicated to providing you with the healthiest reptiles. Many of our projects are currently based on behavior and we are making strides at producing less flighty corns and calmer geckos. We do not compromise genetics and will be honest about any animal you purchase from us. Our reptiles are provided large, enriched habitats, handled regularly and do not live in rack systems. Due to our small business approach, we are able to focus on our reptiles individually and know their unique personalities.

I have been studying and working with reptiles since college, have a degree in biological sciences and a background in behavior, rehabilitation and genetics. While taking courses in college I got to work on population studies of snakes, turtles and alligators. During college I became a vet tech and continued to rescue and rehabilitate domestic and wild animals. I helped start and run a very successful no kill animal shelter. The public outreach led me to formal education.

To help students with their own behavior, including anxiety, I brought in several animals, including a rescue snake. The students helped in her rehabilitation and enjoyed the calming effect of feeling her move. As genetics seemed to be a point of confusion for students, I used snake genetics to explain and the outcomes of pairing demonstrate.

After a few years of hearing how corn snakes are flighty and nippy especially as babies I began to reflect on why and revisited my years of behavior modification and knowledge of breeding other animals such as horses, dogs and cats. I remembered seeing a documentary about breeding wild foxes for behavioral traits and the researches unlocked physical traits as well such as coat color, pattern, and ear shape. If I not only selected physical traits but selected individuals with specific behavioral traits, what would happen? The outcome was amazing. We started producing calm hatchlings even out of the egg! Yes, we still get some sassy ones but the majority show the selected behaviors we were looking for. We have been told countless times that when other breeders use one of our behavior project line individuals in their own projects they can see a huge difference in the behaviors of the offspring. This makes us incredibly happy. It does not mean that other breeders do not have calm snakes as well, it just means that we make the effort to consider the behaviors of the parents and incorporate this when selecting our breeding plans.

Our dedication to our reptiles does not end when you purchase one from us. We will continue to provide support and answer your questions regarding your reptile.
